  • Apple Upgrade is the first-ever way to lease the Apple products you love with low monthly payments. You can enjoy an iPhone or Apple Watch for 12 or 24 month lease terms. Or enjoy an iPad or Mac for 24 to 36 months. And at the end of your lease, you’ll return your device and can upgrade to something new.

    Lease is provided by Klarna.

  • Simply select which Apple product you want to lease, choose Apple Upgrade as your payment option, and fill out your application with Klarna during checkout.

  • If you’re enrolling in Apple Upgrade for the first time, you’ll be asked to provide your legal name, date of birth, phone number, email address, billing address, and Social Security number. You’ll need an eligible and valid U.S. credit or debit card.

Prepaid cards are not accepted. You also need to be a resident of the United States (excluding U.S. territories); have full legal capacity to enter into a contract and be at least eighteen (18) years old or of legal age in your state of residence; accurately provide your true and correct personal details; and be able to receive security verification codes via text message.

  • The application process involves a soft credit check that won’t impact your credit score.

  • Apple Upgrade includes all models of iPhone (except iPhone 16), MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac Studio, iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad mini, Apple Watch Ultra, and Apple Watch Series 11.

  • Yes. However, you will need to apply for and lease each product separately.

  • No, you cannot add a down payment.

  • There are no fees associated with your monthly lease payment, but you will need to keep your device in good condition, or purchase AppleCare protection to avoid a damage fee at the end of your lease term. Additionally, there may be fees associated with upgrading early or terminating before your initial lease term is over.

  • If you’re leasing an iPhone, you’ll need to connect to AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon when you enroll. You can lease an iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch without a carrier connection.

  • If you don’t pick up your Apple Upgrade device within 7 days of placing your order, your lease will be cancelled, and any associated charges would be refunded.

  • No, AppleCare coverage is not included with your Apple Upgrade lease. If you choose to purchase AppleCare protection, it will be billed separately from your lease by Apple.

Most Apple products include one year of hardware coverage with a limited warranty. Adding a plan like AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss for iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch or AppleCare One provides hardware and software coverage, and 24/7 support from Apple experts, which can help avoid damage fees under the lease when you're returning your device at the end of your lease term.

You have up to 60 days after you enroll in Apple Upgrade to add AppleCare coverage. Or you can add your leased device to your AppleCare One subscription when you enroll.

  • When you first enroll in Apple Upgrade, you can trade in an eligible device you own to lower your monthly payments for your initial lease term. Your trade-in credit will be applied by Klarna across your payments for the length of your initial lease term. If your trade-in isn't returned or isn't in good working condition, your monthly lease payment will be updated by Klarna to reflect the adjusted value.

Your trade-in credit will only apply to your initial lease term. You cannot trade-in a device when you upgrade.

For more information on the trade-in process, visit apple.com/shop/trade-in.

  • Klarna is the lease provider for Apple Upgrade.

  • Payments for leased and financed items in the same transaction will be collected by Klarna. Apple will collect payments for AppleCare and accessories that are not financed through Klarna.

  • You can manage your monthly lease payments and your Apple Upgrade lease through the Klarna app.

  • You can use all debit cards and most major credit cards for your Klarna payments. However, some card networks, like AMEX and UnionPay — and some card issuers, like Chase and Capital One — are not accepted at Klarna.

Apple accepts major credit and debit cards for charges associated with AppleCare and any accessories that are not financed. Apple Pay and PayPal are not accepted for Apple Upgrade.

  • If you change your mind after you enroll in Apple Upgrade, you have 14 days after receiving your device to return your device back to us. After we receive your device, your lease will be cancelled.

After 14 days, you will have to pay an early termination fee to exit your lease. This fee is equal to the total of your unpaid monthly lease payments, including applicable taxes and fees, through the end of the initial lease term.

  • If you have AppleCare+ Theft and Loss for your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch, you can file a claim at mysupport.apple.com/theftandloss.

If you don't have AppleCare+ Theft and Loss coverage and your device is stolen or lost, you'll need to close out your lease by paying the early termination fee or choose to pay the purchase option fee (plus any applicable taxes and fees). You can do that at an Apple Store, or through the Klarna app. You can then start a new lease with Apple Upgrade, finance with Apple, or buy your next device with a one-time payment.

You will continue to be charged your monthly lease payments until you either pay the early termination fee or purchase option fee. If you take no action, Klarna will continue to charge you your monthly lease payment through the extension period, and you will be charged the purchase option fee through Klarna.

  • Yes. We’ll reach out and let you know when you’ve made enough monthly payments to upgrade without an early upgrade fee. You can opt out of these notifications in the Apple Store app notification settings.

  • At the end of your lease, you can do one of the following:

    • Upgrade and return your current device.
    • Leave the program and return your current device.
    • Buy the device outright with a one-time payment from your Klarna account.

Please note that for each option, applicable taxes and fees may apply.

You have six months to decide which option is right for you. During this time, you’ll be charged your monthly payment until you take action. If a trade-in credit was applied to your lease at the time of enrollment, your payments will also increase during this six-month period since the credit is applied only to your initial lease term. If no action is taken at the end of the six-month period, Klarna will charge you the purchase option fee under your lease to buy the device outright.

  • No, you do not. You must return your device in good working condition at the end of your lease term. If you’d like to keep your device, you can choose to pay the purchase option fee through the Klarna app to own it outright.

  • No. If you decide to upgrade or return your device at the end of your lease term, the total of your lease payments you made will be less than the full list price of the device at lease signing (excluding tax and any damage fees). If you decide to buy the device, the purchase option fee is the list price minus any lease payments you’ve made minus any remaining discounts or trade-in credit. (excluding tax and any damage fees).
